What ‘Twilight’ Teaches Us About Seducing Women

Ok, I have a confession to make.  I just finished the first book in the “Twilight” series by Stephenie Meyer.  Yes, it’s a book written for 13 year old girls.

Why did I read this book, you ask?  Because I kept fucking hearing about it.  The way chicks talk about it, you can tell that the book taps into their deepest fantasies.  They obsess over it.  It’s become a phenomenon.  Not just teenage girls either, because I originally heard about the book from girls I work with.  I think half the women in America have read it by now.

And who am I?  A guy who likes to bang chicks.  Tapping into their deepest fantasies is a great way to do that.  Does that make me a manipulative asshole?  Of course!  No other description would make me happier.  With that, let us begin.

I actually just finished reading this article, which touches the surface of this topic pretty well, but I don’t think the guy took it quite seriously enough.  So I’m going to add my thoughts.

Women want to be obsessed over by their lover.
This is the absolute moral of the story.  They want to be needed.  They want to be special, irreplaceable, and just as dedicated to him as he is to her.  They don’t really want that player guy, as much as they like the challenge of trying to earn the adoration of so worthy a man.  They just want a man who is high value.  A guy who has options.  An alpha male.  A guy who could take any woman in the room, but for some wild, inexplicable reason, he chooses HER.  Yes, they can get obsessed over a few different archetypes, but the real power of twilight is (the vampire) Edward’s completely ridiculous obsession with (the main character) Bella.  It’s what every woman dreams of – to be completely obsessed over by the ultimate alpha male in her life.  He spends 2 straight days asking her countless questions about her life while they’re in the beginning stages of their relationship before they openly admit their love for each other.  He doesn’t let her ask questions during this time, and he makes her wait her turn.  This drives her nuts because she wants to learn more about his mysterious life, but she also loves to talk about herself. He doesn’t sleep, so he just sits in a chair all night watching her sleep.

Yes, many of the things Edward does in this book are borderline CREEPY.  But since their love is mutual, since he just wants what’s in her best interest at all times, and since he tries multiple times to run away never to see her again and she keeps demanding he come back, his actions are seen as ADORABLE.

The issue in real life application is that most loser guys don’t have enough value to get away with this kind of behavior, so it comes off as supplication.  They do it without the girl being attracted, and they do it needily, begging for value.  When a guy comes in so powerfully that his value is unquestionably higher than the girl’s, and then he reaches her on the emotional level by revealing his weaknesses to her so that she can open up to him in return, he has absolute control over her.  That is the essence of a proper seduction.

To be honest, there were many points in the book where I got a little bored because the time they spent doting over one another can get repetitive once you’re more than halfway through the book.  I think this is a testament to the depth of the feelings that chicks feel when they read this stuff.  I think on average, girls burn through this book in NO time.  I found myself thinking, aren’t they going to get bored with one another?  Don’t they realize that there are other attractive people out there as well?  Wouldn’t Edward just like to get his nut off at some point here?

But the power behind what maintains the electricity between the two of them lies in…

Sexual Tension and Barriers Keeping Them Apart
Since Edward is ready to drink this chick’s blood at any moment because he finds her so unbearably attractive, it requires ultimate restraint just to kiss her without acting on his vampiric urges and taking her life.  There are multiple attractive things going on here:

  1. Higher value because he holds her life in his hands at all times.
  2. The “evil” dirty side of him being a vampire… it’s the same thing that makes guys want to put it in a chick’s butt all the time.  It’s taboo.
  3. It obviously amplifies the importance of every kiss he gives her, which just generally makes these scenes hotter.  It’s similar to when we’re in a bar and we tell a chick that she has to stop turning us on, or we’re afraid we might try to move too fast or some crap, except he has a legitimate excuse that he might end up killing her.  Otherwise, making out gets old quick.
  4. A higher cause.  He is trying to be moral and rational, and she just keeps telling him to turn her into a vampire and get it over with.  In non-13 year old metaphor, she’s reaching for the condoms while he is going.. “Let’s do the right thing and think about this!”

Danger, Excitement, and Him Protecting Her
Edward saves her life at least 3 times in this book.  Yes, it’s a little unrealistic.  He drives over 100mph, he can effortlessly lift her whole body with his pinky, etc.  But he doesn’t do this to show off.  There are “forces” in the book that seem to be after her, and with most impressive things that he does, it’s all under the pretense of protecting her.

Guidos are pretty good at creating this element… whenever they emerge from their regular place of residence (the gym) it’s mostly to get into fights with other guidos or drive their retarded little cars around at high speeds blasting loud music on the jersey shore, usually while intoxicated.  Endless excitement.

Cocky Smile, Teasing, Doesn’t Take Her Mood Swings Seriously
Bella gets kind of pissy at him sometimes, and he doesn’t take it seriously, unless she has a legitimate reason to be upset.  He has this cocky grin she always describes that he uses to keep her on her toes and when there’s nothing exciting or emotional going on in the book, he’s usually teasing her just a little or saying quick little witty things.  He doesn’t talk all that much, but when he does it usually serves a purpose.

Eye Contact and Vocal Tonality
Jesus Christ.  If I read one more sentence about the power behind his eye contact or the beautiful, smooth harmony in his voice I’m gonna fucking kill myself.  Literally, they beat it into you.  That WAS the first 100 pages of the book.  And most of the rest of the book as well.  If nothing else, this book has convinced me of the power of eye contact, even from far across a room.  If you really want to affect a woman, spend some serious time focusing on the eye contact you make with everyone in your life, and improve your voice.  They’re your two primary weapons of seduction.  I can’t emphasize it enough.

Good Looks, Clothing & Material Possessions Don’t Hurt
Yes, Edward has all that stuff – designer clothes, the nicest car at school, a sweet hairstyle, etc.  It adds to his value obviously but in the beginning of the book they make a point of having him be completely oblivious to the charming effect he has on girls.  He never even takes note of these things, let alone brag about his stuff.  Bella constantly talks about how perfect he is, but he practically never tries to impress her.  He comes off as completely genuine.  The material possessions are not all that impressive in comparison with the sections where they talk about the power of his eye contact and the rhythm and melody of his voice.  Those are his most powerful assets.

In Summary
If you’re interested in learning how to really get into a chick’s head, I would definitely recommend this book.  It shows you what’s going on in there when she’s extremely attracted to somebody.  The conversations between Edward and Bella are great examples of how to talk to a woman.  More than anything, it makes me think of my relationships with 2 or 3 girls over the course of my life, which I would consider to be my most emotionally intimate relationships.  It definitely brought me back to those times, reminded me of some of the wild ways I would speak to those girls that I’ve forgotten about over time.  It also makes me tempted to choose an extremely hot chick and try to do a long-term seduction, as opposed to going for the one night stand like usual.

The first 100 pages or so, in particular, is the majority of the seduction.  If you’re only reading it for that, you could easily read those pages in a couple of hours. It’s a quick read.  The book does get pretty sweet towards the end even from a guy’s perspective, with some cool vampires hunting each other.  I enjoyed it.  If for no other reason, you could read it to talk to chicks in the bar about your favorite parts of the book.. lmao.
